Leave the passing lane and pavement behind as you tour a back road where time seems to stand still. Explore the red clay lane that was originally a horse and wagon path. A border of hardwoods include sugar maple, beech and birch creates leafy arches. Stately hemlocks, mosses and trickling streams add sparkle to the narrow red road. Muskrats, hares and red fox find this secluded wood an ideal location in which to feed and raise their young. Near the south shore of eastern Prince Edward Island, Jack's road runs from Rte.1 in Flat River to Rte. 207 for a distance of 4.1 km.
This narrow winding trail named for Jack MacPherson who farmed a large farm to the north of the road in the early 1900s. The roads are now protected unter the province's Scenic Heritage Road Program. They are shouldered by a government-mandated buffer zone.
Not the best choice in early spring or after a good downpour, as the red clay roads will turn to soup.
