Having a passion for photography and exploration, Nick has combined both passions in landscape photography. He especially enjoys seeking out and taking images of unique places off the beaten path, which he can share with others so they can explore the same locations.
Generating Excitement – Growing up in the Tourism industry it’s been engrained in me to encourage people to come to the Island. Photography has encouraged me to see PEI differently. I love to generate excitement about the beauty of PEI (and my home in eastern PEI); not just generate excitement around people who haven’t been here, but to create that longing and excitement for someone to say “I know where that is! I’ve been there!” I feel when people see an image online from a photographer, it brings nostalgia from a past trip, or can generate excitement for a future trip. I really feed off the excitement of others and how they feel about the Island.
Symmetry and Simplicity – My approach to photography is simplicity and symmetry. I prefer to remove anything that is distracting or not adding to the main subject in my image. I love when an image is symmetrical in the frame, because it can give it a commanding presence. I’m always conscious about where the image is leading your eye. A big part of symmetry is leading lines, which are objects or lines in the image that point to the main focal point of the image.
Starfish at Point Prim – The tide at Point Prim can go out several hundred metres revealing thousands of starfish caught in the low tide. My kids really enjoy picking them up and putting them into tide pools effectively rescuing them from drying out before the tide comes back in. It’s also a great photo opportunity at Point Prim when the tide is out, revealing many tide pools to catch reflections of the lighthouse in them.
