The Island's Bald Eagle Capitol.  This picturesque community on the historic Hillsborough River has beautiful hiking and cycling trails and is an ideal location for eagle viewing. Located at the head of the Hillsborough Canadian Heritage River, at a point where the river begins to narrow significantly, Mount Stewart features an excellent estuary, fresh water marsh, and woodland birding at Pigot's Trail. In addition, the Hillsborough River Bird Tour itinerary is on line at www.mountstewartpei.com

Mount Stewart was settled in 1790 and incorporated in 1953.  The vilage played an important role in the province's early transportation history, being the site of a bridge over the river along the route between the capitol at Charlottetown and the shire town of Kings County at Georgetown with Georgetown's deep water harbour. Mount Stewart was a tall ship building center that sent sailing vesels throughout the world.
